Moss Hall Junior School Ofsted Inspection 5th and 6th July 2022

Dear Moss Hall Schools Federation community,

I am writing to you to say how immensely proud the Governing Board is of the recent Ofsted grading of Good which the Juniors has been awarded.  This reflects the huge amount of work which staff have put in to making significant improvements to the school since the last inspection in 2018, and recognises also the support from the wider community to make these changes.  As you know, Moss Hall Schools Federation has been through a challenging time in the last few years; dealing with Covid and Covid restrictions, plus a number of changes in leadership.  We are now in a much happier and more stable position, which Ofsted inspectors recognised when they visited in July.

The inspectors spoke to staff, pupils, a representative from Barnet Council, parents and governors. They also took on board parent and staff voice through the parent and staff surveys.  The visit took place over two days and inspectors were able to see a wide variety of classes, and get a real sense of how Moss Hall Juniors runs and what it’s like to be a pupil there.

They were particularly impressed by our children; hearing how articulate and knowledgeable they were and enthusiastic about their learning and involvement in school life.  Children recognised the hard work of the staff around them and expressed gratitude to the inspectors for this.   Behaviour was excellent and the whole atmosphere throughout the school was calm and purposeful, with children moving around in a mature and respectful way. Since the last inspection, vast strides have been made around support for children with SEND, expectations around behaviour, in the curriculum offer and in how leaders and teachers work together and learn collaboratively.  As a result, all children at Moss Hall Juniors achieve well and feel safe and happy.

Many aspects of the school had truly excellent elements recommended to be shared with other schools and will be developed to take the school to the next level.  The Senior Leadership Team and Governors are also aware of what needs to be done to further improve and are already acting on this, such as addressing gaps in learning which occurred during lockdowns and inevitably as the school moved from an old curriculum, to the new more ambitious and better sequenced one.

The board wishes to say a huge thank you to everyone on the school staff, pupils and the whole community for their amazing hard work and support and we look forward to seeing the Moss Hall Schools Federation continue to grow in its successes, and its pupils to continue to achieve and develop into happy, healthy, confident and successful individuals.

Yours sincerely,

Lis Maimaris and Mo Choonara Co-chairs of Governors on behalf of the whole MHSF Governing Board
