Moss Hall Schools Federation Book Spine

Our book spine has been created over time based on what the children at our schools love to read. It has been edited and added to, according to reviews from the children, who are always eager to tell us about which books sparked their interest.  Our intention is that the books we have chosen elicit a strong response from our readers, extend their vocabulary and help our children to understand the lives of others, whose experiences and perspectives may differ from their own.

Our book spine will continue to be updated to make sure the children have access to modern authors and new titles in addition to classics and firm favourites.  We are currently finalising our Reception book spine adding in rich and diverse texts that excite our youngest readers.

Reading is at the heart of our curriculum and the book spine provides frequent opportunities for our children to read texts that reinforce their learning across the wider curriculum.  There are carefully selected books from a broad range of genres and authors to expand pupil’s knowledge of literature and provide them with high quality models for their own writing.  It opens up opportunities for our children to make connections and recognise themes across a wide variety of texts, which in turn helps them know and remember more in their lessons.
